When we first seen David his whole body was swollen to the point where it was almost hard to recognize him. It was very difficult for us to even look at him as his head and face were about twice the size as normal and it was overwhelming to say the least. David has very severe injuries to almost every part of his body. Both of his legs were crushed and his left foot had to be amputated. His right leg also has multiple lacerations and multiple fractures. At this point his right leg is severely damaged but stable but if any infection sets in he has a chance on loosing his right leg too.
His left arm has multiple lacerations and multiple fractures. His right arm has appeared to have amazingly been spared from injuries. However, his left arm, as well as both of his legs, had to be cut open to release the fluids and swelling. The medical personnel has stated that if this was not done there would be a chance of the swelling cutting off his circulation. At this point he does have good circulation but had his arm and legs not been cut open the loss of circulation could cause David to loose those limbs as well.
His pelvis was also crushed and is probably one of the most severe injuries David has, other than loosing his left leg of course. The Medical personnel has stated to imagine a book that is open about half way. That is what would represent a normal pelvis. When the steel crushed David's pelvis, it actually flattened his pelvis like the partially opened book being opened up all the way. That it the way it was represented to us. It is a very very severe injury and David will probably have to undergo years of therapy to even walk again. Of course he will have to have a prosthetic foot to even begin an attempt walk again.
His abdomen was also very severely injured. The left side of his belly was severely lacerated to the point where his internal organs were protruding from the left side of his belly. For the first day the medical personnel had to leave his abdomen open due to swelling complications. However, after two days of draining fluids from his abdomen David's doctor did an operation to check his organs for damage and was finally able to close his stomach up. During the operation the Doctor also placed temporary screws in his pelvis in order to stabilize it. He also cleaned David's wounds but had to leave his arm and legs open due to the swelling complications regarding blood flow. This operation went well and is only one of many many operations to come.
